Dr. Kara Radzak discusses recent updates in sport-related concussion assessment and rehabilitation with Dr. Abigail Bretzin, Dr. Jaclyn Caccese, and Dr. Justin Karr.
Dr. Abigail Bretzin is a certified athletic trainer (AT) and a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Pennsylvania in the Penn Injury Science Center. She is a collaborative member of the Ivy League-Big 10 Epidemiology of Concussion Study, and is a member of the COllaborative Neuropathology NEtwork Characterizing ouTcomes of TBI (CONNECT-TBI) Data Coordinating Core. Her primary research focuses on the epidemiology of concussion and traumatic brain injury (TBI), emphasizing socio-demographic factors related the injury including sex and gender differences, to inform areas for primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention. 
Dr. Jaclyn B. Caccese is an Assistant Professor in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at The Ohio State University College of Medicine and a member of Ohio State’s Chronic Brain Injury Program. She completed her BSE in Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania, and MS and PhD in Biomechanics and Movement Science at the University of Delaware. Her research focuses on understanding the short- and long-term effects of contact sports participation and sport-related concussion with the overarching goals to inform public policy regarding youth sports participation and to improve outcomes in current and former athletes.
Dr. Justin Karr is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of Kentucky in August 2020. He completed his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a Neuropsychology Specialization at the University of Victoria in 2018, where his doctoral studies and research were supported by the Vanier Scholarship. He completed my clinical internship year at the Seattle VA hospital, and my postdoctoral training within the Harvard Medical School system at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. His research to date has focused on neuropsychological assessment methods, cross-cultural validation of psychological tests, cognitive aging, and the psychological and cognitive sequelae of brain injury.

This article was featured in the July issue of the Journal of Athletic Training.

Dr. Kara Radzak interviews Dr. Avinash Chandran and Dr. Randy Cohen about the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Injury Surveillance Program and the recent thematic issue of the Journal of Athletic Training on NCAA injury epidemiology.
Dr. Avinash Chandran joined the Datalys Center in January 2020 as the Director of the NCAA Injury Surveillance Program. Prior to joining the Datalys Center, Dr. Chandran was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he concurrently worked within the Matthew-Gfeller Sport-Related TBI Research Center, the Center for Study of Retired Athletes, and the Injury Prevention Research Center. Dr. Chandran is a quantitative Epidemiologist, and his research interests are in athlete health over the lifespan, with an emphasis on female athlete health. Dr. Chandran holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Health from the University of Maryland, College Park. He completed his Master of Science in Epidemiology, as well as his PhD in Epidemiology at the George Washington University.
Dr. Randy Cohen has been Associate Athletics Director for Medical Services at the University of Arizona since 2001.  Before coming to Arizona Randy worked at Purdue University & University of Notre Dame.   Randy has a degree in athletic training from Purdue University, a degree in physical therapy from the University of Illinois- Chicago and a doctorate of physical therapy from Simmons College.  Randy has 30 years of experience in college sports medicine.  He is the former Chairperson of the NATA College and University Athletic Trainers Committee.

Dr. Chris Kuenze is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, a clinical professor in the Department of Orthopedics, and the Director of the the Sports Injury Research Laboratory. His primary research interest is the impact of ACL reconstruction on physical activity participation developing interventional approaches to promote physical activity during clinical care. His secondary interests include clinical evaluation of lower extremity neuromuscular function with the goals of reducing ACL re-injury risk and promoting positive long term patient outcomes.

Dr. Kara Radzak interviews Dr. Geoffrey Dover about his recent paper titled "Association Between Pain Catastrophizing and Pain and Cardiovascular Changes During a Cold-Pressor Test in Athletes."

Geoff Dover is a Certified Athletic Therapist and a Certified Athletic Trainer. After earning his undergraduate degree at the University of Guelph he completed his Athletic Therapy training at Sheridan College. He then earned his masters degree and PhD at the University of Florida. For the last three years Dr. Dover was the director of the Graduate Athletic Training program at the University of Florida before starting his position at Concordia University at Concordia in 2008. Dr. Dover wants to thank all of his co-authors for making this study possible. Because of their hard work we were able to identify these findings and make contributions towards understanding pain in athletes.
